Respirator Fit Testing

Respirator Fit Testing

Annual fit testing for respirator users is mandated by OSHA CFR 1910.134. In order to assist our customers in achieving fit testing compliance, START Group personnel are trained and equipped to complete both quantitative fit testing (QNFT) and qualitative fit testing (QLFT).

Quantitative Fit Testing

Quantitative fit testing (QNFT) provides each respirator user with a specific fit factor based on numerous characteristics (i.e. manufacture recommendations, type, model, and use). START Group personnel have recently completed QNFT activities on Avon, Draeger, MSA, Scott and Surviair SCBA and/or CBRN facepieces.

Qualitative Fit Testing

Qualitative fit testing (QLFT) provides each respirator user with a pass or fail result based on the use of either Bitrex or irritant smoke as a testing medium. START Group personnel have recently completed QLFT activities on PAPR units, along with tight fitting full facepiece, tight fitting half facepiece, and non-tight fitting particulate respirators.

Fit Testing Documentation

With both QNFT and QLFT activities, START Group procedures provide the customer with a hard copy of each test result. In addition, START Group will maintain a copy of these test results for a minimum of two years.
